Traces of the bohemian style influence are believed to be able to be dated beyond this period, as the 18th/19th Century Bohemian era is believed to be influenced by the style & culture of the Romani people, who are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group with origins from South Asia or modern-day India.

The Romani people travelled throughout Europe, spending time in Bohemia & then in parts of France. The term used by Romani people to describe their people is Roma. Roma people have been identified as Gypsy people, a term that is pejorative to Roma people. However, Gypsy is a wide term, that is applicable in different settings. Traditional Roma fashion & culture or Gypsy fashion & culture has influenced the Bohemian style.

In the 18th century in Romany Paris, the artists that had moved from across the globe, were mixing together, creating a vibrant culture. Common traits that drove this vibrant culture was a low income were the people made their living from the arts & creative pursuits. This bohemian sub-culture was a different way of living, were success & beauty was sought via a creative journey.
